Securing the Carte de Séjour in Monaco
Monaco residency offers an exclusive status reserved for individuals demonstrating impeccable financial solvency and global reputation.
The official application requires three foundational prerequisites: housing, financial self-sufficiency, and a clean background.
The 3 Pillars of Residency Approval
- Residential Accommodation: Leasing or acquiring a property commensurate with the size of the household. The lease must be registered with the Monaco Tax Department.
- Private Banking Attestation: Depositing substantial liquid funds (typically a minimum of €500,000 to €1,000,000 depending on the institution) in a licensed Monaco private bank, which issues an official certificate of financial solvency.
- Judicial Clearance & Interview: Providing certified criminal background checks from countries of residence over the preceding 5 years, followed by an in-person interview with the Direction de la Sûreté Publique.
Maintaining Valid Tax Residency
To maintain official tax residence certificates, holders must genuinely spend at least 183 days per year in Monaco or establish the Principality as the center of their main personal and economic interests.
